One of the latest E-reades to be launched on the market is the Skiff Reader. The Skill Reader use’s an electronic paper display and is design for newpapers, books, magazines to be purchased via the skiff store.This device looks fantastic, it is only 6.8 mm thick, this is thinner than most magazines, and unlike tablets or the Amazon kindle it is flexible, it is also shatter and crack proof, making it very hard wearing unlike most electronic devices.
The reader can connect up to the skiff service via 3g allowing you do download content, according to skiff you can also connect to a PC and transfer content to the Reader. It is the first consumer product to feature the next generation of e-paper display, based on a sheet of flexible steel foil which is a major break away from the glass based screens used in the majority of electronic devices. The screen itself is designed by LG who created the technology.
This display has benefits over traditional displays with extremely reduced energy consumption, this gives the Skiff reader an astonishing battery life giving the users around a week of usage between charges, and only taking 2-3hrs to fully charge. The foil display is also incredibly tough in comparison to a standard LCD type screen and is shatter proof and crack proof, it can also be bent to a shocking angle without issue. The screen also has a uxga display resolution of 1200×1600 pixels giving a sharp crisp image and support finger and stylus touch screen.
Skiff have so far not released any information in regards to their agree partnership agreements, but the service will also support ads but from early demonstrations these appear to mirror ads we are used to in Newspapers and magazines.
